Does Medicare cover a knee scooter?

Sometimes. A knee scooter can be a covered item when your physician documents the medical need, though it is not the first thing most plans reach for, and plenty of people rent one outright instead of waiting.

The honest version is that this one varies more than most. Some plans will cover it with the right documentation, some will steer you to crutches first, and the answer depends on your policy rather than on a general rule. We check yours before anything is delivered.

Waiting for that answer is the part that catches people out. A broken foot does not wait, and a knee scooter is one of the cheaper rentals we do, so plenty of families simply rent it and get on with the recovery. The rate is published and there is no paperwork on that route.

Call us either way. There is no charge for asking, we will check the coverage while you are on the phone, and we will tell you if crutches or a rollator would do the same job for less.
