Almost everyone renting one of these has broken a foot or ankle, or is a few days out of surgery on one. It is a short rental with a known end date, and the sooner it arrives the sooner you stop using crutches.

Work out which rate you want before you call
Weekly is not always cheaper than monthly, and the crossover is sooner than most people expect. On the knee scooter, the monthly rate costs less than weekly once you pass about 2.7 weeks.
Recovery almost always runs longer than the first estimate. If there is any chance of a second month, ask for the monthly rate at the start.

You will have been offered crutches already, usually free, which makes this feel like an easy decision to skip. It normally is not.
Crutches put your whole body weight through your hands, wrists and shoulders. Most people manage a few days and then discover they cannot carry anything, cannot use stairs safely while holding a bag, and are aching in places that have nothing to do with the original injury. A knee scooter takes the weight on the shin of the injured leg instead, which leaves both hands free.
The trade is that a scooter needs floor space and reasonably flat ground. It is excellent indoors, at work and around shops. It is poor on gravel, deep pile carpet and stairs. Plenty of people keep the crutches for the stairs and use the scooter for everything else.
Some plans do cover a knee scooter when a physician documents the medical need for one. It is not the first thing most insurers reach for, so it is worth asking us to check your policy rather than assuming either way. Plenty of people rent one outright instead of waiting on that answer, and at a published price with no paperwork it is often the fastest thing we deliver.
