Does Medicare cover a wheelchair?
Manual wheelchairs are usually covered when a physician documents that you cannot move around your home safely without one. The criteria differ by plan, so we verify yours.
Power wheelchairs and scooters need a face-to-face examination and a detailed written order, so they take longer to approve under any plan.
The phrase that matters in the documentation is about moving around your HOME. Needing a chair for long distances outside the house is not, on its own, what is being assessed.
We also bill Cigna and Curative, and their criteria differ from Medicare's. Rather than quote you a general rule, we check your actual policy.
