What qualifies you for a hospital bed at home?

No single diagnosis qualifies someone on its own. What a plan looks for is a physician's documentation that an ordinary bed cannot meet the need, usually around positioning, elevation or getting in and out safely. The diagnosis matters less than what the documentation says about daily life at home.

The question almost always gets framed as a diagnosis, and that framing is what catches families out. Two people with the same condition can get different answers, because the decision rests on what the physician wrote about what actually happens in the house.

In practice the documentation is describing ordinary things: whether the head has to be raised to sleep or breathe comfortably, whether position has to be changed through the night, whether someone can be moved in and out of a standard bed without hurting themselves or whoever is helping.

We are the supplier, not the prescriber. We do not make this decision and we cannot diagnose anyone. What we can do is tell you what your plan will want to see, and go back to your physician's office directly when an order arrives missing something, rather than sending you to chase it.

If the documentation does not support it, a self-pay rental is a normal choice and not a consolation prize, particularly for a recovery with a known end date. Those rates are published.

Call us with your plan details and we will tell you where you stand before anything is ordered.

We check before you commit

Coverage depends on your plan and your physician's documentation. We verify it and tell you your cost before anything leaves our building.
