How often will Medicare pay for a hospital bed?

A hospital bed is normally paid for as a rental over time rather than bought outright, so the real question is how long rather than how often. Under Medicare that runs for 13 months of continuous use, after which ownership transfers to you at no extra cost.

That arrangement is called a capped rental. It is Medicare's way of paying for expensive equipment over time instead of all at once: you rent it, and Medicare pays its share each month. Around the tenth month you are offered the choice of buying it, and what you decide there is what determines whether the bed ends up yours or goes back at the end. We handle that billing cycle for you rather than asking you to track it, and we will walk you through that decision when it comes up.

That is the Medicare structure specifically. Other plans handle long-term equipment on their own terms, and we bill Cigna and Curative too, so it is worth checking the shape of it against your actual policy rather than assuming it works the same way.

Replacement is a separate question from the rental term. A bed that is worn out, or a change in the medical need that calls for a different bed, is a new order with new documentation, not a continuation of the old one.

For a short recovery none of this may apply. Self-pay by the week or the month is often simpler, and the rates are on the site so you can compare before you call.
