Does Medicare cover a hospital bed?

Usually yes, as durable medical equipment, when your physician documents the medical need for one at home. What you pay depends on your plan, and we check yours before anything is delivered.

The words “at home” are doing real work in that question. Coverage for a bed in a hospital or a facility is part of that stay. What people are usually asking about is a bed in the house, and that is the one handled as durable medical equipment on a physician’s order.

Under Medicare it is usually a rental paid over time rather than an outright purchase, and we manage that billing cycle for you rather than asking you to track it.

Other plans work differently. We also bill Cigna and Curative, and their rules for beds are not the same as Medicare’s. What your plan requires, and what you would pay, is something we check on your specific policy rather than guess from a general rule.

Three things decide how this actually goes, and each has its own page: what your physician documents, which of the two beds gets authorized, and how long the arrangement runs. None of them turn on the diagnosis alone.

Self-pay is a straightforward option here and plenty of families choose it, particularly for a short recovery with an end date in sight. Our rental rates are published, so you can see the number before you call.

Either way, we verify your coverage and give you your cost in writing before anything is delivered. If something is missing from the order, we go back to the physician’s office ourselves.

We check before you commit

Coverage depends on your plan and your physician's documentation. We verify it and tell you your cost before anything leaves our building.
